When should you consider painting the interior of your home?

You should consider painting the interior of your home every 10 years not only to protect your investment but to ensure the cleanliness of your property. Here at Superior Painting and Maintenance we only use top quality Dulux low VOC products which is not only better for the environment but better for your health too.

What is low VOC?

Dulux EnvirO2's interior and ceiling formulations help prevent mould growth, which can cause the paint to discolour and break down. The mould spores can also have the potential to cause health problems if inhaled. EnvirO2 has been tested for stain resistance against common household stains to ensure it is easy to clean. Volatile organic Compounds (VOC) are known to impact on indoor air quality in your home. Dulux EnvirO2 is a very low VOC paint with equally low emissions making it less harmful to your health and the environment. The entire EnvirO2 range has <1g/L.

Can you reside in the residence while it is being painted?

When completing a full interior repaint we will advise for the property to be vacant for the duration of the project due to the dust and fumes of the products during the drying process, not to mention the removal of fittings and fixtures. For example all door handles and hardware are removed as well as curtains and blinds to be stored for the duration of the project and reinstalled by us once we have finished.

What is the importance of surface preparation before painting?

Surface preparation is the most important part of any painting service. All surfaces require different types of preparation which are essential to guarantee the integrity and durability of each product, this part of the process can be very time consuming when done correctly. As a family run business, the knowledge on preparation has been passed down by the past 4 generations of painters and decorators within our family so it is safe to say that the knowledge is extensive.

When should you consider painting the exterior of your home and what products do you use?

Exterior painting is the most important preventative maintenance for your property and is very important to avoid costly repairs or replacement to your home. You should consider painting the exterior of your home every 5-10 years depending on the surface and condition.

Exterior Masonry and Render: These surfaces are recommended to be repainted every 5 years. Render especially can be very porous if not coated correctly and once cracks start to appear it will allow moisture in to the surface, amounting in costly repairs. Render should be coated in specific coatings, not just your standard exterior paint. We highly recommend Dulux Acratex Acrashield Advance. This product is a high build, elastomeric performance coating that forms a finishing barrier coat in the Acratex texture and anti-carbonation systems. Delivering a paint-like appearance, its film builds are twice that of a standard decorative paint providing enhanced crack bridging performance.

Painted Timber Surfaces: Painted timber surfaces should be painted at least every 5-10 years. Once exterior paint starts to breakdown it can allow moisture in to the surface which can result in your existing paint beginning to crack and flake and can eventually cause mould and rot resulting in costly repairs. We highly recommend Dulux Weathershield as our top coat.

Stained Exterior Timber: Stained exterior timber should be coated as often as your decking which is every 12-24 months. Once exterior stain starts to breakdown it can allow moisture in to the surface and eventually this will lead to rot resulting in costly repairs. We highly recommend Australian made Intergrain timber oil products.
